Dear A Gold,
Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.
As per your description, it seems that you are having issue using OneDrive synced files in Word, error prompts and you have already tried reinstalling OneDrive, delete entries in keychain, clear credentials and remove license files and then reactivate them.
If the understanding above is right, as per the error message you are getting, we'd recommend you refer to below suggestions and hope they can help:
- Unlink and re-link OneDrive - Microsoft Support
- Reset OneDrive - Microsoft Support
- Reinstall office, for your reference: Download and install or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2021 on a PC or Mac - Microsoft Support
- At meantime, to confirm if the problem is caused by the local environment, we'd also recommend you create a new user profile on Mac and see if any improvement. It is worth trying because it will help narrow down whether the issue is caused by a specific corrupted user profile. ***Third-party link disclaimer:***Microsoft provides no assurances and/or warranties, implied or otherwise, and is not responsible for the information you receive from the third-party linked sites, or any support related to technology.
For the checkbox "Use Office applications to sync Office files that I open", we've also done a quick test, and we can reproduce a similar situation on our side, no Office tab showing up in OneDrive >
Preferences. We've done a lot of searches and we can't find an official article that has documented this situation. More resources need to be involved in.
If the issue still persists or you want to know more about Office tab in OneDrive sync client, as you mentioned that you are the only user of your M365 subscription, we notice you post this question in For business category, so we suppose you have Microsoft 365 for business subscription, and you are the administrator. In this situation, we sincerely recommend you follow steps in this article to contact Online Support. The support team over there has higher permission than us, they can remotely help check the situation on your side, involve more resource to collect logs and help you do troubleshooting. This would be a more efficient way in handling this case for you.
For reference: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?
If our understanding of the scenario is not consistent with yours, feel free to point it out.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation! Have a good day.
Sincerely,
Rhoda | Microsoft Community Moderator
