SharePoint analytics numbers not adding up

Good day,

I'm trying to figure out why my math is not adding up when I look at my news page analytics. It shows there are 68 Page Viewers but in the graph for Page Traffic by Time, I added up all the number of Unique Viewers in the shaded squares and I got 97. Why is there a discrepancy of some 30 unique viewers? I'm assuming the 68 Page Viewers are equivalent to the definition of Unique Viewers.

Dear Ph.Natalie,

Good day! Thank you for posting your query in our community.

Based on your description, you have question about the numbers in the SharePoint Page Analytics.

First, about the Page viewers, from this official article: View usage data for SharePoint pages and news - Microsoft Support, we can know that it shows the total number of individual visitors to the page, regardless of how often they've visited.

So I tested it on my side with two different accounts in a tenant:

At about 1:00, two different accounts visit a page at the same time;

Then at about 2:00, only one of these two accounts visit this page.

After a period of time, I check the Page viewers, it shows the correct number 2.

However, from the following two figures, you can see that the total number of Unique Viewers on the same day is 3(2 at 1:00 and 1 at 2:00).

Based on my test result, we can know that Page Traffic by Time will only count the number of Unique Viewers who visit the page in an hour. However, if the same user visits the page in other hours, it will be counted again.

Sincerely,
