How do I delete a server registration from a recovery services vault?

I have a Azure protected server that I registered with a recovery services vault. I have since moved the server to a new subscription and want to delete the server and it's registration from the current RC vault; and delete the Recovery Services vault from my Azure subscription.

When I try to delete the rc vault, I get an error that there are existing resources in the vault and the vault cannot be deleted.

When I go to the Backup Infrastructure/Protected Servers (Azure Backup Agent)/<Server Name> and type the server name into the server name field, the name does not register and I cannot complete the Delete server registration process.

What am I doing wrong? Is there some other task I need to perform before I can delete the server registration from the vault?

I tried submitting a request through help and support, but I need a support plan and to ask the question in these forums? This seems to me like a bug or undocumented "feature" on the Azure portal.

Does anyone from Microsoft Azure sit on this forum who can assist?

Hello @Randy Fleszar - Thank you for reaching out!

For Azure backup agent, you need to delete the protected items from MARS console as well. For instructions refer to this link - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-delete-vault#delete-protected-items-on-premises

After deleting protected items in MARS, then delete backup items from portal, that should delete everything related to Azure backup agent. Post this operation, you should be able to delete recovery services vault (RSV) if there are no other backup items in the RSV.

Feel free to reach out to us, if need further assistance in this matter!
