Excel (desktop) not saving data consistently while co-authoring

Excel (desktop) is not saving data consistently while co-authoring. The issue occurs when the workbook is edited in the Desktop version of Excel, it works fine when editing it online.

Some columns in the workbook give errors or doesn't work at all when editing it in online version, so have to switch to desktop version to get the specified columns updated. But when we go back to SharePoint and check it, the changes made are not there.

For your information, about 50 people use the workbook to input/edit info. This issue isn't persisting for everyone but about 10-15 people using the excel sheet.

We were guessing it was the file size that was causing the issue, but we made a copy of the workbook of a much smaller size, but the issue still persists. We also thought about the number of people working simultaneously in the same spreadsheet. However, the users were able to carry out their work before without any issues.

The Office version is (16.0.15601.20456)

All users are running on Windows 10.

Checked Settings for Autosave in Excel and everything looks fine.

So, not sure what changed. Please give some advice and suggestions on what can be done to solve this issue.

    Dear AS015,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

We're afraid this issue may need to check the environment on your side for further investigation.

As forum support we may not have enough permission and resource to directly check the environment on your side.

We notice you post this question in For business category, so we suppose you have Microsoft 365 for business subscription. In this situation, we sincerely recommend you contact your Microsoft 365 administrator, follow steps in this article and try to create a support ticket to contact Online Support. The support team over there has higher permission than us, they can remotely help check the situation on your side, involve more resource to collect logs and help you do troubleshooting. This would be a more efficient way in handling this case for you.

For reference: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation! Have a good day.

    Sincerely,

    Sean | Microsoft Community Moderator

works fine when editing it online.

The issue occurs when the workbook is edited in the Desktop version

Excel (desktop) just download whole file and then sync/upload to remote server on file level share.

online version is on cell level share which sync data immediately.

so work online version or build a new B/S system may acheive your goal.
