OneDrive documents folder syncing mess

I need step by step on how to transfer all the files on my documents folder in OneDrive into the desktop Documents. Since Steam downloads video games onto the Documents folder, it takes up a lot of my OneDrive storage. Therefore, I want to unsync my OneDrive completely from the Documents folder. But when i tried unsyncing the documents folder to OneDrive, and going to the Documents folder it shows a OneDrive icon and says "where are my files?" this is a huge mess. I excpected all my files to simply be on the documents folder, why does Microsoft make it so difficult??

    Hi. I'm Brian.

By default, OneDrive moves Desktop, Documents and Pictures to the OneDrive folder. They should move back to their normal location if you click on the OneDrive icon in the Notification area, click Settings, select the Backup tab and deselect the folders. If that doesn't work, come back for some settings that can be changed in the registry.
