Exchange Online SMTP Relay

Hi Folks,

Customer will be logging into their online payroll system before sending an email from within the online payroll system. The online payroll system will reply upon the exchange online to send email to an external recipient. This is why an SMTP relay is required to authenticate & relay the email to be sent. The recipient will receive the incoming email as if it was created & sent from exchange online.

1. Will the SMTP enabled for specific mailbox (hence user) will support the above?

2. Currently the staff do not have local admin access to their PC and their local login is controlled centrally by their local AD. If the local AD is sync with the AAD then will this enable their staff to log into their PC when working at home?

3. If remote wish to access their local assets (file server) then would they still need to VPN into their office LAN? Is there any better way? Can AAD Proxy make on premise apps visible for remote availability without VPN but enforce same MFA as O365 and other Azure AD apps?

    Hi @Sebring

Please note in Microsoft Q&A forum it is recommended to ask one question per thread unless the questions are related.
Since your first question is related to Exchange online, while the second and third ones are more related to Azure AD, I suggest we mainly focus on the first question in this thread.
For the other questions, please consider creating a new thread and add the Azure AD related tags. It would also help you get better answers.
    Thanks for your understanding.

    1. Will the SMTP enabled for specific mailbox (hence user) will support the above?

Yes. If you enable SMTP Auth for specific mailboxes, it would support the above.
Here is a link on how to enable SMTP Auth for specific mailboxes for your reference: Enable SMTP AUTH for specific mailboxes

In addition, there are some other settings in Azure which may block SMTP Auth, for example, Microsoft Security Defaults.
Please also check this link if you run into trouble with sending messages:
