EXCEL: dropdown menu dissapears from cell after cut+paste

Hi all,

So i have a worksheet to do my business administration and am just getting to experiment with it, but i noticed an annoying problem: when i cut (control + x) and paste date from a cell which contains a dropdown-menu, afterwards that cell doesn't contain the dropdown-menu anymore. It seems like i'm cutting the dropdown-menu away from that cell, while i only want to cut the data within that cell. Is there a way to fix this?

Before cutting it shows the dropdown-menu icon to the right side of the cell:

After cutting it does not show the arrow for the dropdown-menu anymore (and i selected a different cell than in the first screenshot here, but this problem applies to all cells that were cut with control + x):

Under: settings > advanced > display settings > show > all objects. I have this turned on. And under: data > data validation i have both check boxes marked.

Any solution? It is really annoying as i am continuously cutting and pasting lines to organize the chronology of the data.

Thanks in advance,

floris

This is by design. Cutting a cell cuts ALL aspects of the cell, not just the value.

As a workaround, copy and paste the cell, then clear the original cell's value.

In your example, you can also insert rows to move the data down. Excel will apply data validation to the inserted cells.

Oh really, by design? Huh ... how inconvenient ... But thanks a lot for letting me know, the copying/pasting seems the easiest workaround
