Hello James W,

I am Ibhadighi and I would happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

The issue you're experiencing with the Power Query Editor cutting off when opening SQL code is usually caused by a compatibility problem between the version of Excel you're using and the version of Windows you're running. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

  1. Check for updates: Make sure that you have the latest version of Excel installed on your system. You can do this by going to File > Help > Check for Updates in Excel. If there are any updates available, install them and then try reopening the Power Query Editor.
  2. Disable hardware acceleration: Sometimes, hardware acceleration can cause issues with the Power Query Editor. To disable hardware acceleration, go to File > Options > General > uncheck the box next to "Enable hardware acceleration".
  3. Run Excel in compatibility mode: Running Excel in compatibility mode may help resolve the issue. To do this, right-click on the Excel icon and select Properties. In the Compatibility tab, check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode" and select the version of Windows that you're currently running (e.g., Windows 10).
  4. Reset Power Query settings: Sometimes, resetting the Power Query settings can help resolve issues like this. To do this, go to File > Options > Power Query > Reset.
  5. Update your graphics driver: An outdated graphics driver can also cause issues with the Power Query Editor. Go to your computer manufacturer's website and download the latest graphics driver for your system.
  6. Use a different editor: If none of the above solutions work, you can try using a different editor such as Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code to edit your SQL code. These editors are free and can be downloaded from their respective websites.

I hope one of these solutions helps resolve the issue you're experiencing with the Power Query Editor cutting off when opening SQL code

Best regards, Ibhadighi.
