Unable to move OneNote Notebooks

Hi

I am using OneNoe from a Microsoft 365 subscription. After I have created a notebook, I am unable to change it's location. When I click on the share or move option, I only get the option to share a link or invite people. I have some notebooks that were created in the onedrive > Documents folder.

Now, I want to move them to a dedicated folder. Moving the file manually from the document folder to another folder does not work. Could you please help me do this?

Also, a feature to set the default path for all notebooks would be great.

    Hello,

I have also recently started seriously using OneNote. I back up all my office files in OneDrive but I also keep them in dedicated folders in a dedicated driver that is not my OS drive. I do not like that the OneNote exist in some unseen vacuum and would also like to move my OneNotes into the folders with the other office documents.

I am not sure if the OP had the same issue but my concern is that the Change Location feature does not exist on the Notebook Properties screen (Desktop Subscription). I thought I could bypass this by creating a new book and selecting change folder, however this feature only allows me to select a drive letter (none of the folder structures on the driver are visible so I can not select the folder I need, which ironically is where the one driver folder is).

I am at a loss on what to do, how would I restore the change location feature?

I tried to upload an image showing the concern but it would not allow me upload, try .jpg and .png, both under 1 mb, not luck :(

I have the same issue with Enterprise / Microsoft 365. The "File->Settings->Share or Move" only allows Sharing. The "File->Settings->Properties" shows the notebook file location, but the location cannot be edited, changed, etc.

I have the same issue - when following your recommendations, the notebook location is not changeable. It shows the location, but there's no option to change it. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Hi Vivek B,

I'm Tim, an Independent Advisor here and a Microsoft user like you. I don't work for Microsoft and do not have access to any of your data on their system.

As per Bernd P’s instructions you would:-

    1. Open OneNote: Launch the OneNote application on your computer.
    2. Open the Notebook: Locate and open the notebook you want to move.
    3. Click on Notebook Name: In the left sidebar, where your notebook list is displayed, right-click on the notebook’s name.
    4. Choose “Properties”: From the context menu that appears, select “Properties.”
    5. Change Location: In the Notebook Properties window, you should see an option to change the notebook’s location or path. Click on this option.
    6. Browse for New Location: Navigate to the new location where you want to move the notebook and select it.
    7. Confirm and Move: Confirm the new location, and OneNote will move the notebook to the specified location.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further or If you find it helpful, you can mark this comment as the answer.

    Kind regards

    Tim
