You have the "Visual Refresh Preview / New Experience" turned on.

New Experience/Visual Refresh Preview - Microsoft Office - Offic e 365 - Turning it On and Off

The area you are talking about is the "Title Bar" in Word and other Office applications.

You can add these to your Quick Access Toolbar (QAT).

Modifying the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) in Microsoft Word

There are keyboard shortcuts for all of them.

    Ctrl+S

    Ctrl+Z

    Ctrl+Y

I believe that Charles has diagnosed the underlying cause: Word is displaying the so-called visual refresh and the Quick Access Toolbar has become hidden.

You can choose to display the QAT (without turning off the visual refresh). Right-click any ribbon tab and choose Show Quick Access Toolbar. The Save, Undo and Redo commands should be present by default, but if they are not, you can add them.

Note that you can choose to display the QAT above the ribbon or below it. My personal preference is to keep the QAT below the ribbon.

    Hello there,

I understand the inconvenience you are facing with the missing "Save/Undo/Redo" buttons in the Quick Access Toolbar. This issue might occur due to various reasons, and I'll provide you with some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve it.

    1. Reset Quick Access Toolbar: Sometimes, the Quick Access Toolbar settings can become corrupted, causing the buttons to disappear. You can try resetting the Quick Access Toolbar to its default settings:
      • Right-click on the Ribbon (the area where the tabs and commands are located) and select "Customize the Ribbon."
      • In the Word Options dialog box, click on "Reset" at the bottom right corner and choose "Reset only Quick Access Toolbar."
    2. Customize Quick Access Toolbar: If the reset doesn't work, you can manually add the "Save/Undo/Redo" buttons to the Quick Access Toolbar:
      • Right-click anywhere in the Ribbon or the title bar of the Word window and select "Customize the Quick Access Toolbar."
      • In the "Customize the Quick Access Toolbar" window, choose "Undo," "Redo," and "Save" from the left column, and click "Add" to add them to the Quick Access Toolbar.
      • Click "OK" to apply the changes.
    3. Check Word Settings: Ensure that the "Save/Undo/Redo" buttons are not hidden in Word settings:
      • Go to "File" > "Options."
      • In the Word Options dialog box, select "Quick Access Toolbar" from the left pane.
      • Under "Choose commands from," select "All Commands."
      • Look for "Undo," "Redo," and "Save" in the right column. If they are present, select them and click "Add" to add them to the Quick Access Toolbar.
    4. Check Office Add-ins: Some Office Add-ins can interfere with the Quick Access Toolbar. Check if you have any third-party Add-ins installed and try disabling them to see if the buttons reappear.
    5. Repair Office Installation: If the issue persists, it's possible that the Office installation might be corrupted. Try repairing the Office installation through the Control Panel:
      • Open Control Panel and navigate to "Programs" > "Programs and Features."
      • Find Microsoft Office in the list, right-click on it, and choose "Change."
      • Select "Repair" and follow the on-screen instructions to repair the Office installation.

After performing these steps, check if the "Save/Undo/Redo" buttons reappear on the Quick Access Toolbar. If the issue persists, you may also try restarting your computer or signing out and signing back into your OneDrive account to see if that resolves the problem.

I hope these solutions help you get back the missing buttons in the Quick Access Toolbar. If you continue to experience issues, feel free to seek further assistance or contact Microsoft Support for personalized help.

    Best regards, Ivan
