How to fix authenticator app issues?

I used a one-time QR code on an older model iPhone and decided to get an upgrade, When installing the app on the newer model iPhone the app did synchronize the account when I logged in. The application asked me to use the older model's authenticator app to log into the account, I wasn't able to access the older model until I got home, once I finally did it and signed out of the app on the older model I supposed it had linked the two phones then and signed me out of the app on the newer model too, when I tried to sign back in on the newer model the app asked for the verification code, which I could not access because I am currently not signed into the app on any device. I even tried to reuse the QR code, but as I've stated it was a one-time use, so now I am locked out of my account that uses this two-step verification app.

Just so I'm sure I got this straight

    • You have 2 factor authentication active on your account?
    • You have a device that you didn't complete the setup on and thus unusable for 2FA?
    • You do not have any devices setup as backup methods for your 2FA?

If all those are true then you'll never get your account back.

For those that find this topic in the future, ALWAYS setup multiple backup methods for 2FA. Do NOT rely on just a single device.
