return NULL or empty cell from an if function

I have a column of numbers, some negative, some positive, in column A. I want to move or copy the positive numbers to column B, and the negative numbers to column C.

I've tried if (a1>0,a1,"") but that gives an error if I use the blank cell value in a calculation.

Is there a way to do if(a1>0,a1, blank)?
