Hello All,

I have an shared notebook (not created by me). I have access to it on my windows laptop but not on my iphone onenote app.
The notebook is shared in onedrive.

While opening the notebook in iphone, I am getting following error message.

"OneNote can't open this notebook because it has been deleted or moved, the location may not exists or you may not have perission to access it"

Things I have tried.

  • Resetting onenote app.
  • Changing file location in onedrive
  • Share notebook in onedrive itself.

If someone knows any solution, Please help !!!!

    Hi mohanish,

Apologies for the late response, hope you're doing well.

I haven't confirmed it yet, but if you are using iCloud sharing, you can try the method below:

Open notes, click ‘Back’ at the top left. This is your ‘Folders’ screen. You should see ‘iCloud’ and beneath it ‘On My iPhone’. On the right of iCloud it should say ‘Upgrade’, tap and hold it and it will upgrade your notes. If you’re like me and you never upgraded your notes that’s the solution.

I know you've tried a lot of troubleshooting method already. Below are the methods I have collected from community users that encountered the same error message.

    1. Tap on Apps and features in the left-sidebar. Search for OneNote and tap on the OneNote icon once. Click on Advanced options. Tap on Repair after scrolling down.
    2. Go to iOS Settings > OneNote > Reset OneNote > Delete Sign-In Credentials and turn the toggle on. Make sure OneNote is not running. Re-open OneNote and sign in again.
    3. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold for a second, then swipe up on the OneNote app to force quit it. Then try reopening the app. Clear the OneNote program cache: Go to Settings > General > iPad/iPhone Storage > OneNote and select "Offload App". Then go to the App Store and reinstall the app. Delete the app.
    4. Check and make sure OneNote is running in the foreground. Logout and log back in to OneNote to reset your credentials and avoid authentication problems. Force a OneNote to sync OneNote for iOS (iPhone and iPad) Reset credentials.

The reason why I am focusing the troubleshooting is because the issue not happening on your Windows PC only on your iOS device.

    Sincerely,

    Leonardo_Y

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

It seems that you're having trouble accessing a shared notebook on your iPhone. There are multiple possible reason why this problem occur, from possible incorrect Microsoft account used down to permission of the shard file. Let's work on this together.

Just to clarify, what Microsoft 365 Version & Edition are you using? About Office: What version of Office am I using? - Microsoft Support

While waiting for your response, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    • Make sure that you are signed in to the correct Microsoft account on your iPhone OneNote app. You can check this by going to the app settings and selecting "Accounts".
    • Check that the shared notebook is still available in OneDrive. You can do this by logging in to OneDrive on your computer and checking the shared folder.
    • If the notebook is still available, try removing the notebook from your iPhone OneNote app and then re-adding it. To do this, swipe left on the notebook in the app and select "Remove". Then, go to the "Notebooks" tab and select "Add Notebook". Choose "OneDrive" as the location and select the shared notebook.
    • If none of the above steps work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the OneNote app on your iPhone.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Sincerely,

    Leonardo_Y
