Control panel vs browser settings Windows 11 and Edge 11

Hi,

If I go into Control Panel > Internet Properties > Privacy and I allow a site to use pop-ups, do I also have to allow the URL in each browser if I have pop-ups blocked, or will the Control Panel setting override it?

Also, what is the difference in using the Security tab > Trusted sites? Do I need to set that too?

Thanks!

D

Hey there, my name is Ajibola and I'm excited to help you today!

To allow pop-ups for a site in different browsers, you need to adjust the settings of each browser separately, as the Control Panel setting does not override the browser setting. Each browser has its way of managing pop-ups and exceptions. For example, to allow pop-ups in Microsoft Edge, you can go to Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions >Pop-ups and Redirects and turn off the Block toggle or add specific sites to the Allow list. To allow pop-ups in Chrome, you can go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings >Pop-ups and Redirects and turn off the Blocked toggle or add specific sites to the Allow list

The difference between trusted sites and pop-up exceptions is that trusted sites are a security feature that allows you to specify websites you trust and want to access without any restrictions or warnings. In contrast, pop-up exceptions are a privacy feature that allows you to specify websites that you want to allow or block from opening pop-up windows. Trusted sites are configured in the Security tab of the Internet Properties dialogue box, while pop-up exceptions are configured in the Privacy tab of the same dialogue box. Trusted sites can affect other settings, such as ActiveX controls, scripts, or cookies, while pop-up exceptions only affect the display of pop-up windows
