I just tried this in Excel Web version in my M365 Business Premium account and my desktop version (V2309 Build 16827). Neither version has the Place in Cell option as stated in this thread.

I am accessing an Excel document online.

A couple of weeks ago I had the ability to click "Picture" and then "Place in Cell" but now that has gone. It now just shows "This Device".
Previously it was very simple to add an image from my computer into a cell.

Can you please tell me if this valuable feature has now been removed or is there something that may have changed on my end to disable it?

The "old way" of "=image..." is more cumbersome and i see NO reason why they cant update 365 to have the insert picture in cell feature. Will they eventually make this switch? I have to put photos in sharepoint for every line entry and it's tiresome; and the features that come with the newer "place in cell" option don't all work using the old image function.

I initially was able to place an image in a cell using my work place Sharepoint version but the next time I logged in, the feature was gone. It also disappeared for my co-workers. Microsoft NEEDS to address the inconsistency in their software and if there is some rationale behind the anomaly, it should be explained so that we can use the functionality.

I have this same issue. The "place picture in cell" option is simply not available on SOME installations of 365. From some computers I see this option exists and others not even though they appear to be the same Excel version (MS has also removed the "about" feature). Very frustrating indeed. All the folks who have replied with solutions about inserting from file etc are simply not facing this issue.
