Hello,

There was a recent update to MS Word. The update was "Pushed down" from Enterprise/Admin. I am now using Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2302 Build 16.0.16130.20806) 64-bit.

Previously (before the update), I was able to insert PDF files into comment bubble. I do this by selecting a word and then right mouse click and select "New Comment". Then i would place my cursor in the comment box and go to "Insert" and then "Object" and "Object" and "create from file" and check the box for "Display as icon". This action was possible before the update.

After the update to Version 2302 Build 16.0.16130.20806, i could no longer do this. However, all the PDF which as embedded into the comment previously using the method described above is found in the "Revision" pane and I can double click to view. However, I cannot repeat the same process of inserting object.

This is most likely a result of modern comments being enabled. You may be able to insert objects in a comment in the Reviewing pane (which you can display by clicking the Reviewing Pane button in the Tracking group on the Review tab). See the screen shot below.

Alternatively, turn off modern comments at File > Options > General. Restart Word for the change to take effect.

Note that, while the option to disable Modern Comments is available in Microsoft 365 (which the OP is using), it is not available in Word 2021.

Good point. Fortunately, in my installation of Office 2021, modern comments are disabled.

I have sort of a blended version with both Office 2021 and Office 365 installed. In Office 2021, I still show the option.

Interesting! I wonder if there is a registry entry somewhere that controls the presence of an option for showing/hiding the modern comments interface.

Maybe the existence of such a registry has been discussed before. I don't remember.
