How can I paste a picture in a enriched text column in List

Using Microsoft List, I’m trying to copy/paste an image contained in the clipboard into an enriched text.

As you can see in the attached steps, I am able to copy/paste the picture, but then, when I re-open the entry the picture has disappeared.

Step 01: I paste the picture from the clipboard to the enriched text.

Step 02: Once saved, I see the picture.

Step 03: Once back in my list of entries, I see it too.

Step 04: When I go back in the entry the picture has disappeared.

Step 05: When I open in edit the enriched text, the picture isn’t there anymore.

I do not want to ask my users to uplaod their images onto a storage location and then uplaod the url. This is way to fastidious.

My users need to express their need with screenshots.

Thanks.

    Hey all,

I'm in the same boat, and checked out Waterdog's reply above. I was surprised to see that those images do indeed work. I tried to figure out the cause- was it format? Size? What do they have in common that all other files do not?

I'm sorry to say that I've figured it out, and it's not good news.

It turns out that when you copy and paste an image from a webpage, SharePoint is NOT pasting the actual image in there. Rather, you're getting a reference URL. If the images you want to paste inline are from the web, you'll be fine. But this does me no good, as I need to be able to take screenshots and paste those in. Doing that, you just get the problem the rest of us report: the image appears and will remain until the form is submitted, after which it vanishes.

I do intend to pursue this further. If I make any progress, I will update this post.

It took a bit of digging but I've found a workaround/solution for this issue. You can paste a screenshot into a Microsoft List form if you customize the SharePoint List form using PowerApps. The field you want to store the image in should be a Multi-line Plain Text field in the SharePoint list settings BUT in the PowerApp form settings, edit the field to change the control type to Edit Rich text.   When the item is opened with the PowerApp custom form it displays the pasted image. While it appears to store the image as html in the SharePoint list field, when the item is opened with the Custom Power App form it renders the html into the image.

    Hello everyone

I'm afraid this is by design and I hope that in 2024 this can no longer be ignored by Microsoft. Apparently this feature has been asked for since 2016. I wish Microsoft can add a feature to automatically upload the pasted image as an attachment to the listitem and use that url to display the image in the enriched text field. This is how Atlassian Jira does it. This can't be to hard to implement by a company such as Microsoft.

    Hello Sophia Papadopoulos,

I have the same issue. After saving or updating, I tried in Incognito, but the issue kept happening. What recommendations or advice do you have?

    Thank you

    Dear Marquaire Gilles,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and I have tested the behavior at my end, where I copied the image from the web and I verified the copied image is shown in the Clipboard, then I pasted the image in the Multiple lines of text column with enhanced rich text, where the pasted image is showing in the List even when I try to edit the Multiple lines of text column:

Moreover, I also tested the same behavior with multiple Lists in the Microsoft Lists and Lists in the SharePoint Online site, where I am not able to reproduce the behavior explained in your description.

In this situation, I would like to confirm whether the same problem happens when you try the same steps in the different browser or InPrivate/Incognito window.

If still same, then can you please check whether the same problem happens with specific List or all Lists with the Multiple lines of text column. If there is no any list with Multiple lines of text column, please create a simple list and see whether you are having the same issue?

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
