I purchased a new Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 computer and am trying to get my "documents" from my old Microsoft computer to sync to my new computer. It keeps referring to my pst folder being open in another location. My files and email have loaded but the contents of My documents has not.

Any one have experience with this before? Thanks!

You were clear - I was referring to this message:

It keeps referring to my pst folder being open in another location.
<< A pst an Outlook file - and pst files do not sync well. They can take "forever" to sync if very large.

Search OneDrive for pst files - do any have a current date? (It's ok to store pst files in OneDrive as a backup, but you shouldn't open them in outlook. )

If the pst is in OneDrive and open in Outlook, close Outlook on both computers and wait until the old computer stops syncing OneDrive. Make a copy of the pst on both computers - copying it outside of OneDrive and change Outlook's settings to use the copy.

Hi, Diane--thanks for your response. I may not have been clear with my explanation of the problem. The problem I'm having is in getting the folders in "my documents" to load. Regardless I did as you suggested and it did not fix the problem and that's when I realized maybe I wasn't clear in my explanation. My outlook is fine and all those folders and contents have loaded. But the folder on my desktop is what is not syncing.

    Does this make sense?

Hi, I'm Diane and I'm happy to help you today.

On the old computer, close outlook. I recommend moving the pst out of OneDrive on the old computer - it's in OneDrive\documents\outlook files - if you need it on the new computer, move it using a usb drive and put it in a folder the does not sync to OneDrive.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
