How do I fix data that keeps defaulting?

Hi,

I have a choice column that keeps defaulting to a choice that was previously set as the default option via the settings. How can this be fixed?

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and would like to let you know you can alter the default value of the Choice column in both ways:

Method 1: Modern UI

Open the SharePoint Online List/Library> Click on the Column (click on the down arrow beside the column name> Column Settings> Edit> At the Default Value, either set or change the default value> Click Save (Picture 1-2)

Method: Classic UI

Open the SharePoint List or Library> Settings> List Settings / Library Settings> Scroll down to Columns> Click on the Column title to open the Column page> Scroll down and set a Default Value> Click OK to save changes. (Picture 3)

However, if you are aware of this, we apologize and please ignore it, and there is no option to keep the default value as fixed in the SharePoint Online list or Library. In this situation, I suggest you to add your valuable idea as feedback in the SharePoint · Community (microsoft.com) which is the best place to share our ideas and improve the Microsoft products.
