Unable to use Share function in OneNote

I have a user who is attempting to use the share function in OneNote but is unable to. We are on OneNote for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2304 build 16.0.16327.20324) 64 Bit.

When attempting to share using the share function the customer consistently gets the message to "Refresh this page. If this keeps happening, please try again later." Once we worked through some troubleshooting he then gets the following error: Cannot find resource for the request SP.RequestContext.current/web/GetFilebyURL/{@a1}/ListItemAllFields/

With the above message we imagined that it could be an issue with where the OneNote Notebook was saved so we exported and moved to another know good location that was local to the machine. That still gave us a similar issue.

After that failed to provide us with a solution I could only think that there was possibly something in Registry Editor that we would need to dig through or an office repair would be our best step forward. I wasn't certain what to do in REGEDIT so we attempted the Office Online Repair. That still proved to not work for us.

I turn now to the community for further assistance just in case I may be missing something. We have a work around but user would like this issue resolved as the share function works in every other M365 app but OneNote.

Please let me know if you need any other information from me or if I could provide other details that could benefit us in this.

    Hi respected AB Ortega,

Thanks for your valuable feedback and sharing updates with us and I really appreciate your effort and your precious time doing.

And I appreciate your kind words.

To check whether this problem related with your local environment/ Registry somehow, if possible, could you please try to use OneNote Windows 1O app and verify the result with us. For your reference: What's the difference between the OneNote versions?

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Hi respected AB Ortega,

Thanks for your valuable feedback and sharing updates with us and I really appreciate your effort and your precious time doing.

And I appreciate your kind words.

If possible, could you please double-confirm if user create a new notebook (for test purpose) does the same error message occur?

I think this issue might be raised by your local environment (Settings, Registry).

Given this situation, I would suggest you follow the methods below and see if they could help in your scenario:

1.Perform aClean Boot under your Windows, and check if issue persist.

2.Create a new user account under your Windows. See if it still alerts you with the same error message. It is worth trying because it will help you narrow down whether the issue is caused by a specific corrupted user profile.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad

Thank you for getting back to me, after testing with the customer as well as on my own machine I can confirm that the issue is still present in new accounts/new notebooks. Leading me to believe you are absolutely correct and confirmed my initial thought that the local environment within our Registry may be causing that sharing issue.

With that being said, do you have an idea of what the share settings may be within the Registry Keys? I'd like to test and see if manipulating some of the keys available would help with allowing the share issue to be resolved.

Thank you for the response, it occurs with the share button on the top right and provides the following error when attempting to share:

If we go to File --> Settings --> Share or Move and attempt to mail our internal colleagues a link we get the "Cannot find resource for the request" error message. It happens with all notebooks we've tested, on the user's endpoint as well as my own.

This behavior has been in our environment post a migration from Office 2016 - M365 as far as I know which was quite a few years ago.

    Dear respected AB Ortega,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I’m sorry you’re having a problem with but based on your description we can work together to resolve it.

For the situation you encountered, we deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

As per your description, it seems that the problem only happened with OneNote 365 app itself. However other Office 365 application, the "Share" function work well. Firstly, may I know if my understanding is correct?

Since you are using OneNote 365 desktop app, to check if this problem happened with a OneNote app itself, I suggest you go to OneNote Online, find the notebook and try to open the notebook into OneNote online app then click on "Share" button and verify the result with us.

Also, if the issue only happens in a specific notebook, you may create a new notebook, copy and paste all notes in the new created notebook to see if there is any difference.

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial suggestions may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, please kindly provide more information below to let us work further.

1.Does the issue happens in all notebooks or just a specific notebook?

2.Can you recall when this behavior starts e.g., after Office update or Windows OS?

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad
