Cell selection is incorrect

Question

Split from this thread about a very old version of Excel that is no longer in service.

I also have this problem using MS 365 excel using both the touch pad, wireless mouse and cabled mouse on a Lenovo Yoga Slim. Have re-installed and win 11 is up-to-date.

As an ex IT professional I have been using Excel since it was announced as competition for the then market leader Lotus 123 and adopted MS products as the company standard. Given the history of this problem that seems to go back years and must also have hit the business community, has there been any serious response from Microsoft?

I would appreciate a response from a Microsoft representative as well as a fix!

I now seem to be on the Windows forum rather than the Mac so I will repost my problem with Excel selecting cells that are offset by 2 to 6 cells to below that pointed at. After that the offset is consistent.

I am running MS-360 16.0.16731.20194 on a Lenovo Yoga Slim with Windows 11. All are up-to-date in fact I re-installed MS-365.

Apart from the Lenovo apps, I am running Kaspersky, Malwarebytes and Cyberghost.

I have run the Lenovo hardware checks for the Yoga Slim - all OK.

The problem started recently, is erratic and not reproduceable. The behaviour is as described by others online (admittedly mostly some time ago) in that the selection of cells works most of the time but once the offsetting from the selected cell starts it persists with the same offset.

Reloading the spreadsheet, switching to another sheet and back seems to cure the problem (for awhile?).

The spreadsheet is large with a number of macros written by me and has been in use for 10+ years without problems. I do however enhance it from time to time so it is not static.

Any advice would be appreciated

Then you need to post to the Community which deals with the Windows product rather than this one which focuses on Mac.

I am running excel version 2308 (Build 16731.20170 Click-to-Run)

Windows 11 is up-to-date. The PC is only running MS software, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes and Cyberghost all of which are current.

Hi

This old problem was fixed in an update and has not returned.

Please use the menu bar in Excel and choose Microsoft Excel > About Microsoft Excel. If your installation is up to date you will have version 16.76 or 16.77. What version are you running?
