Yahoo Email Sign In Prompt Repeatedly Pops Up In Outlook 365 Email Since Early July

A Yahoo Mail sign-in prompt popup has repeatedly appeared in my Microsoft outlook.com email account since early July (it is now 8/25/23). I don't want Yahoo Mail to control my Outlook Mail account. Here's a screenshot of the popup prompt:

When I proceed through the promptings here's a screenshot of the next popup prompting as I continue through the process of entering credentials:

After entering all the required credentials (User Name, Password) on the Yahoo screen, the following box appears saying I agree to sign into my Microsoft Outlook account with my Yahoo account. (Here's the screenshot:)

I don't want Yahoo Mail to control my Outlook Mail account. I synched my Yahoo mail to Outlook two years ago. Everything worked fine until early July this year.

The annoying pop-up prompting appears about every half hour, all day every day.

Please tell me how to stop the popups from appearing.

Thank you, Marie

    Hello Marie.Reno,

Thanks for posting the query here in this forum.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this issue.

Is there a Yahoo-based account (any email account using Yahoo servers) configured in your Outlook.com?

    To verify, from within Outlook, go to <File> --> <Account Settings> --> <Account Settings> --> <Email tab.

Sign into https://outlook.live.com to confirm if the issue persists.

However, you can try the troubleshooting steps below:

In Outlook, go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings, select the Exchange account and click "Change" button. Click "More Settings", in "Security tab", uncheck "Always prompt for logon credentials".

Also remove stored credentials in Credential Manager:

Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type Credential Manager in the search box.

Click on Credential Manager to open it.

Under Windows Credentials, click on Generic Credentials.

Find all related logins to your Yahoo and Outlook accounts and delete or remove them.

Launch Outlook and check if you are still prompted for credentials.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank for the response.

I've since learned that Yahoo App Passwords are no longer available to use with Outlook. However, this Microsoft article instructs how to switch to Microsoft 365 Insider, Current Channel, which can possibly allow me to continue using Yahoo email in Outlook. It will only require my Yahoo password, which is saved in my Outlook add-on file.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-add-a-yahoo-imap-account-to-outlook-desktop-without-an-app-password-d13fb02d-eb93-4775-bae9-0e54bf2f5bca

I switched to 365 Insider, Current Channel. I hope this might solve the problem. I should know if it does in about 25 minutes, if the annoying Yahoo pop up doesn't appear.

    Hello Marie.Reno,

Thank you for the update. I'm sorry to hear that the troubleshooting steps do not help in resolving the issue.

OAuth 2.0 is a more secure sign-in method instead of the Basic Authentication method.

Try enabling Two-Step Verification for your Yahoo account.

Once you have enabled Two-Step Verification for your Yahoo account, you must generate a special App Password.

Instead of using your regular password in Outlook, you must now use that special App Password when being prompted for your credentials.

    Refer to the article: https://www.msoutlook.info/question/yahoo-two-step-verification

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

    Oluwatosin,

    I appreciate your response.

    You asked:

Is there a Yahoo-based account (any email account using Yahoo servers) configured in your Outlook.com?

Yes, I have a Yahoo email account (sbcglobal.net) synched to Outlook. It has been synched for two years with no problems until recently. It is IMAP/SMTP.

I navigated through your suggested troubleshooting attempts. Nothing was resolved. "Under Windows Credentials, click on Generic Credentials," there are no listings for Yahoo accounts.

Just FYI, I've seen that the problem I'm experiencing is widespread—numerous reportings of this occurrence are scattered across the internet. It seems to have started in early July 2023 (possibly earlier) when AT&T/Yahoo (which services sbcglobal.net email accounts) switched to something called OAuth.

I don't understand any of this and would greatly appreciate some help to get the Yahoo sign-in prompts in Outlook to stop.

    Thank you,

    Marie
