When trying to open an Excel file I get below error.

Filename: excl. extension 207

Total pathlength: 216 characters

(I'd like to add details of contents to the file names)

Only after removing a word from the name Excel opened the file.

The error message you are encountering in Excel indicates that the total path length, including the filename and its directory structure, exceeds the Windows maximum limit of 260 characters. To resolve this issue, you will need to shorten the file path by either renaming the file or moving it to a directory with a shorter path.

If you are still encountering the error even though your filename is under 207 characters, it's possible that the entire path, including the directory structure, is still too long. In Windows, the maximum path length for a file, including both the filename and the directory structure, is 260 characters by default.
