My primary email is a personal email. That email is being shut down from provider. We bought a domain on GoDaddy and have an email, but it will not let us add this email as primary.

RV J, so when you add the email as an alias, what is the message prompt?

Thanks Raymond...yeah no "errors", but as you stated cannot create a "personal" O365 using the GoDaddy "work" email. Seems like I am in an odd spot...

    Hello RV J,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I am a Microsoft user just like you, I hope you are doing well?

Sorry for this inconvenience. However, you have not provided sufficient information to enable me to understand why you are unable to change your alias.

Are there any error messages? If the email is perceived as a work account, you will not be able to add it as an alias.

    According to Microsoft:

    • You can't add an email address that's associated with a work or school account as an alias.
    • An alias or email address can only contain letters, numbers, dot (.), underscore (_) or dash/hyphen (-). Spaces and other special characters aren't allowed.
    • Existing Hotmail, Live, Outlook.com, and MSN addresses can't be added as aliases, and you can't add an alias that is already associated with another Microsoft account.
    • It isn't possible to create a new alias using @hotmail, @live.com, or @msn.com. If a Hotmail address is important to you, you need to sign out and create a new account.

To add Microsoft account as an alias, you need to create the account from alias:

    1. Go to https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=864833. Sign in to your Microsoft account, if prompted.
    2. Under Add an alias, create a new Outlook.com email address and add it as an alias.
    3. Select Add alias.
