I am creating a banner ad in Publisher that is 750 x 300 pixels. It has jpg images in it. When I save the whole ad as a jpg the size changes. How can I create a banner ad and keep the size when saved as a jpg?

Publisher is a desktop publishing program with limited image editing features. When you save your work as a JPG you only have the option of saving as a 96 dpi, 150??dpi and 300 dpi image. That means the dimensions are going to vary.

After saving your work as an image you can adjust the resolution and size of the image using most any free image editor...including one that is probably already installed on your computer. There is no need to buy/rent photoshop. Yes, you will have to invest a little time learning the basics of the image editor but that should not take long.

Before I begin, I go to Options>Advanced in Publisher and change the measurements from inches to pixels.

Then I create a custom page size of 750 x 300, which is what the program that I am uploading to requires.

I am using text box and inserting jpg images on the page. When complete, I save it as a publisher file. then I save it as a jpg and the size changes dramatically. I had a friend adjust the size in Photoshop and send back to me, but I would hate to have to purchase photoshop for this one task.

How do I tell what version of Office I am using?

I have never had to do this before, so I don't know if it's a current issue.

    Tony

Hi Tony McDonald2 ,` Thank you for posting to the Microsoft community. Based on the description,  you need help on how to save the banner ad in Publisher without changing its sizes.

We understand the importance of this case to be addressed. Allow us to check on this and we’ll assist you in the best way we can. Before anything else, let me ask you the following questions below so that I fully understand the problem.

    1. Is this working before?
    2. What version of Office are you using? Microsoft 365 Personal? Microsoft 365 Family? Microsoft 365 Business Standard? Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise? Office 2016? Office 2019? Office 2021? I specifically need the Product name and Version number as highlighted in the guide and photo below.

One option is to check the resolution of your jpg images before inserting them into your banner. If they are too large or too small, they may cause the banner size to change when saved as a jpg.

Another option is to change the page size of your banner to match the desired jpg size. You can do this by clicking on the Page Design tab, then Size > More Preset Page Sizes. Under Publication Types, select Posters, then choose the size you want.

A third option is to use linked pictures instead of embedded ones. This can reduce the file size of your publication and avoid distortion when saving as a jpg. To do this, you need to insert the pictures from a folder on your computer or a network location, then right-click on them and select Change Picture > From File. Make sure you check the box that says Link to File.

You may check the helpful links below that could fix the issue.

We look forward to your response.Truly Yours,FatimaMicrosoft Moderator
