Hi,

I have a query on one behavior for onedrive for business Windows 10.

Firstly, Im trying to move from onedrive documents folder to a folder which i created named Backup Documents in Local C Drive.

During robocopy, the Backup Documents folder in Local C Drive suddenly rename itself to Documents folder.

I have never seen this behavior before and would like to know why the folder rename itself to be the same as onedrive Documents Folder.

Can anyone help. Thanks

    Hi respected Farhan_1506,

Thanks for your valuable feedback and sharing updates with us and I really appreciate your effort and your precious time doing.

And I appreciate your kind words.

There could be several possible reasons for this behavior. Double-check your commands or any other actions you performed to ensure.

Also, that would depend on how you moved your Backup Documents folder.

As you encountered an unexpected behavior while using Robocopy to move your OneDrive for Business folder. Based on test from my side, I cannot meet the same symptom as like you described above.

May I know have you tried right click your Documents Folder, select the Location Tab and enter a new location their new location must be a folder location not a drive location.

NOTE: this is the correct way to move any of your libraries OneDrive Folder.

    .

I would suggest moving it back to its default location, reboot and then move it again to your desiredfolder, and check if it clear this error.

Also, Restart your computer to see.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad

    Hi Waqas,

Yes, Im using Onedrive backup Documents feature. My organization doesn't allow us to stop backup.

The Folder named "Backup Documents" is a new folder that i created in Local C Drive

When i did the copying from Onedrive Documents folder, the backup Documents folder will rename itself to Documents folder as per below without me changing it.

I have not tried normal copy yet as im figuring why the folder is getting renamed by itself. Was wondering if its a onedrive behavior? Could this be the answer "A collision occurred and OneDrive generated the folder and appended the name of the original folder to it." ?

    Dear respected Farhan_1506,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I’m sorry you’re having a problem but based on your description we can work together to resolve it.

For the situation you encountered, we deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

As per your description, first may I know did you use OneDrive backup Documents and Desktop and Pictures feature? via go into the Settings on OneDrive, select the Backup tab? if yes try to uncheck Documents (and Desktop and Pictures) and those folders should get moved back to their position under C:\Users<youraccount>.

Also, does the Folder named "Backup Documents" is a normal Folder in your OneDrive sync documents folder? If possible, could you please upload screenshot for our reference, so we can understand your exact scenario and provide our suggestion in a productive manner, perhaps some related screenshots will be helpful.

As you mentioned, "During robocopy" may I know if you use normal copy the Folder from OneDrive documents folder into your Local C Drive does it make any difference?

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial suggestions may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad
