I’m working on a spread sheet for employee schedule and hours projected. I created drop down using the data variances. I want to add the options of personal, vacation, bereavement, and off days. I added the abbreviation for the pay code but I'm stuck on how to add the values-. All, except off days, have a value of 8 hrs.

    Hi KC

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd happily help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

To add text options to a drop-down list of times, you need to use the Data Validation feature in Excel. Here are the steps you can follow:

Enter the text options you want to add in a separate column or row on the same or a different worksheet. For example, you can enter P, V, B, and O in cells A1:A4 on Sheet2. Select the range of cells that contains the text options and give it a name in the Name box above the grid. For example, you can name it TextOptions. Go back to the worksheet where you have the drop-down list of times and select the cell or cells where you want to add the text options. Click Data > Data Validation > Data Validation. In the Data Validation dialog box, click the Settings tab and choose List from the Allow drop-down menu. In the Source box, enter an equal sign (=) followed by the name of the cell range that contains the text options. For example, enter =TextOptions. Click OK to apply the changes.

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas
