Hello there,

Regarding: Online Microsoft Forms application through 365

I am needing to add a repeating section into a microsoft form I have created.

The form is for a safety inspection, once you answer the questions in a particular question I want the option for the user to go back and fill in the same questions for another piece of equipment they are inspecting without having to set the form up by copying and pasting the questions numerous times.

Layout to be similar to:

question 1

question 2

question 3

question 4

do you have another tool to inspect?

  • if yes - then the form repeats the above questions with empty fields so the user can answer them while inspecting another piece of equipment
  • if no - branching to go to the next section or the option to submit the form

If you can please offer advice and direction we would appreciate it.

Thank you

Could you clarify what is meant by "new experience" of Microsoft Forms? Can you verify that the information you've given is correct? This feature seems to be missing for all users I've seen on the forums that have been given this advice, and so I can only imagine that it is false or outdated.

In future, if advising users, please verify that the advice is correct and current, and provide screenshots, rather than a nebulous response with no assurance that it's correct.

This answer is absolutely incorrect, and is just adding to the noise. This question is asking about Microsoft Forms, not InfoPath 2010/InfoPath 2013. The instructions you gave refer to InfoPath, not Microsoft Forms.

    Hi Sarah,

    Thanks for contacting us,

I'm happy to help you with adding a repeating section into your Microsoft Forms.

Microsoft Forms has a feature called **Repeating section** that allows you to add a set of questions that can be repeated as many times as the user wants. This is useful for scenarios like yours, where you want to collect the same information for multiple items or instances.

To enable the repeating section feature in Microsoft Forms:

    • Open the form you want to add the repeating section to in the "New Experience" of Microsoft Forms.
    • Click on the "+" button to add a new question or section to the form.
    • Select "Repeating section" from the list of question types.
    • A new section will be added to your form with a default title and description. You can edit them as you wish.
    • To add questions to the repeating section, click on the "Add question" button inside the section. You can add any type of question you want, such as text, choice, rating, etc.
    • To change the order of the questions, drag and drop them within the section.
    • To delete a question, click on the trash icon next to it.
    • To delete the whole section, click on the trash icon next to the section title.

To customize the repeating section settings:

    • Click on the "..." button next to the section title to open the settings menu.
    • You can change the following settings:
      • **Section name**: This is the name of the section that will appear on the form. You can use a descriptive name that reflects the purpose of the section, such as "Tool inspection".
      • **Section description**: This is the text that will appear below the section name on the form. You can use this to provide instructions or information to the user, such as "Please answer the following questions for each tool you are inspecting".
      • **Minimum number of sections**: This is the minimum number of times the user has to fill out the section. You can set this to 1 or more, depending on your requirements. For example, if you want the user to inspect at least one tool, you can set this to 1.
      • **Maximum number of sections**: This is the maximum number of times the user can fill out the section. You can set this to any number or leave it blank for unlimited. For example, if you want the user to inspect no more than 10 tools, you can set this to 10.
      • **Add section button label**: This is the text that will appear on the button that the user can click to add another section. You can use a clear and concise label that indicates the action, such as "Add another tool".
      • **Remove section button label**: This is the text that will appear on the button that the user can click to remove a section. You can use a clear and concise label that indicates the action, such as "Remove this tool".

To preview and test the repeating section:

    • Click on the "Preview" button at the top right corner of the form design page.
    • You will see how the repeating section looks like on the form. You can fill out the section and add or remove sections as you wish.
    • To exit the preview mode, click on the "Back" button at the top left corner of the form design page.

    I hope this helps!

    Regards, Sola

    Hi again,

I'm sorry I wasn't able to help, unfortunately, I do not have any more troubleshooting to offer, there are knowledgeable experts on the platform and I hope someone else will take a look at your issue.

    Thanks, Sola
