Hi,

i have configurd a dhcp scope in windows 2019 and did - ipconfig /renew on notebook. it shows me error with " unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has time out."

when i run wireshark on notebook then i can only see " Discover " packet has been sent from notebook but could not any " offer " packet in the wireshark.

i also run wireshark on the Windows 2019 dhcp server, but in the server there is not DHCP request at all.

Can anyone give some insight where could be the issue pls? Thanks a lot.

    Hi ,

Welcome to our new Q&A platform.

    >>when i run wireshark on notebook then i can only see " Discover " packet has been sent from notebook but could not any " offer " packet in the wireshark.

Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following questions:

    1. Was the DHCP server on the same IP segment with client?
    2. Did you use any network device?

Please first check if DHCP server receives the DHCP Discover message from the client.

If not, check intermediate device like relay agent.

If DHCP server receives the DHCP Discover message from the client, then you need to check if DHCP server send a DHCP offer message.

If not, we need to troubleshoot from server side.

Hope this can help you understand better.

    Best Regards,

    Candy
