Error when adding email alias: "This email address is already taken. Please try another one."

Hi,

I am trying to change my microsoft account email alias. I want to remove my existing internode email which is currently set as my primary alias and add a new existing gmail address as my primary alias.

I know I need to add the new email address as an alias before removing the existing primary alias, however when I choose "Add alias" I receive an error "This email address is already taken. Please try another one"

This I find confusing because my gmail address is not associated to my microsoft account or microsoft domain so I am not sure why is suggests its already taken, any ideas on this would be appreciated.

thanks

regards

Jason

    Hello Jason_MS56,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I am a Microsoft user just like you, I hope you are doing well.

Sorry for this inconvenience. However, if you are receiving that prompt, you cannot add that Gmail as an alias to your Microsoft account, there is no way around it as the system has detected your Gmail to be associated with a Microsoft account.
