    Hi

If your software is up to date the version would be 16.80 and your license type could be one of several different kinds, including Office 365 subscription or maybe volume license, or maybe Office 2019. You didn't say what it is so I have no idea what you have.

Knowing the storage location you're attempting to use would also be helpful to know. Can you open a new blank document and save it to your Mac? To OneDrive?

    Hi,

License type is Microsoft 365 Subscription. Under 'belong to', my email address is listed. I work in university, have been using this subscription for years. The problem is new, unfortunately. I'd have noticed. I'm a heavy user - not a casual one at all.

    Hi

From your description it appears that Word has not been activated. Please check for this. Use the Menu Bar and choose Microsoft Word > About Microsoft Word. What does it say your license type is?

Typically, this error arises in the following scenarios:

    • Insufficient privileges to write to a volume or folder on your Mac.
    • File privileges set to read-only.
    • Damaged template or Excel file.

If you are still facing issues saving Office files to a specific location, please follow the steps below to see if it resolves the problem:

    1. Ensure Office 365 for Mac Apps is Updated: Update your Office applications to the latest version by selecting "Check For Update" from the Help menu in any Office Application.
    2. Remove Microsoft ADAL Keychain Entries: Search for "ADAL" in the keychain and delete those entries.
    3. Remove Secure Bookmarks Preference Files:
      • Press Command+Shift+G, paste the following path: ~/Library/Containers/Microsoft Word/Data/Library/Preferences/.
      • Inside this folder, remove the file named Microsoft Word.securebookmarks.plist.

After completing these steps, it is essential to reboot your machine. Manually removing preferences and keychain items does not ensure they will be recreated properly unless you restart your system.
