Import Spreadsheet Wizard Error—I cannot clear the reference cache

I have tried to import an Excel spreadsheet to create a new table in a fresh Access database. The first time I tried to import the table, I received an error message: "'Oylers' User IDs' is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long."

I changed the name of the file.

I tried again.

I got the IDENTICAL error referencing the previous name.

I tried importing a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT file.

I got the IDENTICAL error referencing the previous file's previous name.

I have tried all the troubleshooting _I_ can think of and need help.

I have:

  • tried creating new databases to import different data.
  • restarted the computer.
  • run a repair on Office.
  • uninstalled and reinstalled Office.
  • uninstalled Office, deleted the Registry Keys, reinstalled Office.

I have followed every change with a computer restart. I still get THE EXACT SAME ERROR. I give up!

You changed the file name? What is the new name?
