Hey there,

I've been a dedicated user of Microsoft OneNote on my Android phone for quite a while. However, I'm Dealing with a bit of a snag after resetting my phone and reinstalling OneNote. Some important files are refusing to open, even though the home page and OneDrive claim they're there.

Hello! User_75_741

Thank you for the update and for replying back!

We did everything we could to possibly recover your file but to no success. What I can only suggest for you to avoid this kind of issue again is for to you to save the file to OneDrive and always update it, sync it, and when syncing make sure that it is finish, you can check the file 2/3 times a week in the OneDrive.com.

For more backup and to avoid data loss in case if you lost internet connection is for you to have it also in the external storage device this way you can use the file in offline mode if you are working with the file in an unstable connection area.

Please do not hesitate to post your issue again here in the Community if you ever need help with Office and Windows. You can create a new thread to discuss these concerns by clicking this link: Create a new question (microsoft.com)

We appreciate as well your patience and your effort as well in your end.

Hello! User_75_741

Thank you for the reply!

Regarding for this file you can see this in the OneDrive, correct? if you can see this file in the OneDrive.com try to restore the version of this file. You can do this by follow this steps: Restore a previous version of a file stored in OneDrive - Microsoft Support

To restore a previous version of a file stored in OneDrive, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to OneDrive with your personal Microsoft account or your work or school account.
  2. Select the file that you want to restore to an earlier version (you can only restore one file at a time).
  3. Right-click on the file, then choose Version history.
  4. In the Version History pane, do one of the following:
    • If you’re signed in with a work or school account, select the ellipses (…) next to the version of the document you want to restore, and then click Restore.
    • If you’re using OneDrive as part of SharePoint Server, select the arrow next to the version of the document you want to restore, and then click Restore.
  5. Alternatively, if you have the OneDrive sync app installed on your PC, right-click the file in File Explorer, select Version history, then choose the version you want and click Restore

I hope this helps!

Thank you,

Vince

Hello! User_75_741

Thank you for the reply!

Awesome! That you have done so many troubleshooting steps. Yes technically regarding your question there's a high chance that the notes are still syncing before you have reset the phone. So, yes I would suggest to download the OneNote if you can from OneDrive. You will be able to see the files from there and click the download button this should let you download a copy of your OneNote. Once that is done you can then try to reupload it through the OneDrive.com again and see if you can sync it.

I hope it helps!

Thank you,

Vince

Hello! User_75_741

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

It seems to me that you're experiencing syncing issues with Microsoft OneNote on your Android phone.

Allow me to ask:

  • Have you tried signing out of your OneNote account and then signing back in? This can sometimes help resolve syncing issues.
  • Can you see the files in OneDrive.com or in OneNote.com?
  • I would like to know what @domain and who is hosting your email account? example for @domains: Gmail.com, Yahoo.com, Outlook.com/Hotmail.com]
    • May I know if the account is for Work/School use? or Personal (Hotmail/Outlook.com) use?
  • Is this happening to all files? or specific file?

Additionally, you can try clearing the cache and data for the OneNote app on your Android phone. To do this, go to Settings > Apps > OneNote > Storage > Clear Cache/Clear Data. If these steps don't work, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the OneNote app on your Android phone.

Judging by the error message it seems to me that the files are still syncing from the device. Did you by any chance let the syncing finish the notes in your OneNote? Before and after resetting the device?

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Vince

    Greetings vince,

I appreciate your assistance with the challenges I've been facing in OneNote. Here's an update on the troubleshooting steps I've taken:

    • I've tried signing in and out of my @hotmail.com account multiple times.
    • Files appear in both OneDrive and OneNote. When opening files on OneDrive, it redirects to OneNote, where the hang-on issue persists.
    • I'm using a personal @hotmail.com domain for my account.
    • The issue is specific to files created before resetting the phone; post-reset files function correctly.'
    • I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app with consistent results.
    • Attempted to clear the cache, but unfortunately, it didn't resolve the issue.
    • I'm hesitant about clearing app data due to a caution message indicating potential loss of all files, settings, accounts, and database.

Regarding your last question about syncing before the phone reset, unfortunately, I didn't sync the Note app. Could this be a contributing factor?

I appreciate your continued support and would like to know how best to proceed to resolve this issue.

    Thank you,
