I have found that with downloaded files, and also files I have received via email, it is necessary to unblock the file using the Windows Explorer method before attempting to open the file with Excel. If I forget to do this, I have had to delete the file from my computer and download again and unblock via Windows Explorer.
how to unblock macro enabled excel files .xlsm?
when I update .xlsm files on one computer and use it in another by copying it across network drives. But they always get blocked with the pink errmsg
following instructions from this link above to unblock the file does NOT work
neither does adding a location to trusted sites despite the entire network drive has been added
can someone please help with a definitive way to make .xlsm files be trusted on a new computer? thanks

Method 1: Trust Center Settings
- Open Excel:
Open Microsoft Excel on the computer where you want to unblock the .xlsm file.
- Go to the "File" Tab:
Click on the "File" tab in the Excel ribbon.
- Select Options:
Choose "Options" at the bottom of the left sidebar. This opens the Excel Options window.
- Navigate to Trust Center:
In the Excel Options window, select "Trust Center" from the left sidebar.
- Open Trust Center Settings:
Click on the "Trust Center Settings..." button on the right side.
- Navigate to Macro Settings:
In the Trust Center window, select "Macro Settings" from the left sidebar.
- Choose Macro Settings:
Choose the option that says "Enable all macros" or "Enable all macros (not recommended; potentially dangerous code can run)."
- Check "Trust Access to the VBA Project Object Model":
Optionally, check the box that says "Trust access to the VBA project object model."
- Click OK:
Click "OK" to apply the changes and close the Trust Center window.
- Click OK Again:
Click "OK" again to close the Excel Options window.
- Reopen the .xlsm File:
Close Excel and reopen the .xlsm file. You may need to reopen Excel as well.
Method 2: Unblock File Properties
- Locate the .xlsm File:
Right-click on the .xlsm file you want to unblock.
- Select Properties:
Choose "Properties" from the context menu.
- Unblock the File:
In the Properties window, if there's an "Unblock" option, click it. This appears if the file is blocked.
- Click OK:
Click "OK" to close the Properties window.
- Reopen the .xlsm File:
Reopen Excel and the .xlsm file.
Additional Tips:
- Ensure that the file is not opened in Protected View. If it is, click on the "Enable Editing" button at the top of the Excel window.
- Make sure that the file location is added to the Trusted Locations in Excel options.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, there might be additional security policies in place on your network that are affecting the file. In such cases, it's advisable to consult with your IT administrator for further assistance. AI was partially deployed to support the text.
