Exchange 2016 CUs vs Patching

Can someone explain to me how Exchange 2016 patching works? In the past (Exchange 2010) you simply use Windows update to check for and install patches including CUs and there was no real involvement from an admin otherwise. I'm noticing that Windows update doesn't seem to detect or apply Cumulative Updates for Exchange 2016.. However if you happen to be running an older CU, there are still newly released patches that get detected by Windows Update and installed.

So couple of questions...
Is the only way to apply a CU in Exchange 2016 to download a new ISO and go through the installation procedure?

If you aren't running the latest CU, how long can one expect to receive security patches for the older build of Exchange you are running?

Regards,
Adam Tyler

    @AdamTyler-3751

    For Exchange 2010, it call RU update(Update Rollup).

    For Exchange 2013 and later, it called CU update(Cumulative Update). For each CU version, there also exist Security Update (SU)

    About Security Update and RU, you could check and install with Windows Update(You can also download them from Microsoft Update Catalog). About CU, you need to download the ISO and install the CU from ISO.

    For more detailed information about Exchange update, you could open a ticket to consult with Microsoft.
