RDPW file/ RDP File wont open with Microsoft Remote Desktop

Hello everyone,

we are accessing our Windows Virtual Desktop using the online portal - https://rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com/arm/webclient/index.html

however when we use the portal above to obtain the .rdpw file for Microsoft Remote Desktop app execution, windows 10 says it doesn't recognize the file typ.

All my users have freshly downloaded Microsoft Remote Desktop 10.2.1810.0, but windows does not care. When I choose open with, I can't find the app windows remote desktop.

So i tried looking for it, and its hidden in C:/programmfiles/windowsapps

I than tried to choose this app for execution but it fail to open the rdpw files with Microsoft Remote Desktop.

I know I can just assing a public ip and use "standard" rdp settings, but for security reason we need get the security keys and gateway keys from the rdpw file.

If someone could help that would be amazing

I crossed checked with AVD team on this.

You need to install the AVD Client if you wish to use the download .rdpw file option as this file will launch the AVD desktop client not the RDP client from the store. I don't believe there's an option to change the default app to the store client.

    Hope this helps.
