I have several macro enabled excel files which constantly keeps getting corrupted and not possible to recover data, luckily I keep older non corrupted versions. It happens frequently at a frequency of almost every other time I open a document. and I have to spend larger part of my day recreating changes that are lost due to excel corrupting the files. It is not possible to recover the saved data with open and repair. And once the file is corrupted it can not be saved. My problem isn't how to recover a corrupted file, it's how to stop excel from corrupting excel files. I'm using latest excel version 2401, build 17231.20236 excel office 365 on windows 11. I have disabled all add ins, run virus scan and nothing helps, and since office 365 I can't downgrade or install any other version of excel.

August 8, 2017, update for Excel 2016 (KB3085435) - Microsoft Support further down in this article there is a guide for adding a new registry key which helped.

Locate and then select the following registry subkey:

*HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel\Options*

add a new DWord, ForceVBALoadFromSource and set it to 1

This helped and even allowed me to open old corrupted files again.
