I am trying to enter a UK bank sort code. It is 03-07-52. When entered it turns into

03/07/1952. I have tried changing the format but it never stays as 03-07-52. Ideas please.

Hi David. I am an Excel user like you.

Format the cell(s) where you want to enter the bank sort code(s) as Text before entering the data. When you enter the data Excel will then look at it as text and will not try to re-format it as a date.

    Do this:-

    '03-07-52

    • instead.

Note that for the first character above:-

    '

    • on my keyboard it's on the same key as the @ sign just to the left of the ENTER key.
