I cannot add a chart in Excel

Hello, I am trying to add a chart in Excel but it is completely greyed out. When I open a completely new workbook I can add a chart but for some reason on this workbook I cannot. I am running Office Home & Business 2021 version 16.82 on a Mac.

Any suggestions?

With that workbook active, under Excel - Preferences, in the View section, is the 'For Objects, show' option set to Nothing by any chance? If so, set it to All.
