OneNote Incomplete Sync Error Code: 0x2 bdf5f

Hello,

I have an error code that keeps popping up every time I try to sync my OneNote notebooks. The code states "We can't access this section file or the attached file because the file was moved, the file name is invalid, or the file permissions have been changed. (Error code: 0x2 bdf5f)"

Two out of three notebooks have not synced, and I am unsure of how to proceed.

I just want to sync them so I can close the notebooks and have my OneNote work faster.

    Dear Adeline,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and to my knowledge, the error message you are encountering will be caused due to the problematic Notebooks has been either deleted or moved from it’s original location.

In this situation, I would like to confirm whether you are able to access the Notebooks in the OneNote Online. If yes, I would like to suggest you to follow the below steps and check the outcome:

Note: Before you follow the below steps, please make sure to backup the content in the Notebooks which are not synced to OneNote for the web, you can backup by copying the data manually and pasting it into Word document or directly into the related Notebook via OneNote for the web.

Step 1: Open the OneNote 365 app> File> Info> Click on the Settings on the Notebook> Close this Notebook> Perform the same steps on each Notebook opened in the OneNote app> Account> Sign out from all Office 365 accounts signed into OneNote app> Quit all Office apps.

Step 2: Open the Control Panel> User Accounts> Credential Manager> Windows Credentials> Remove the identities related to Microsoft Office apps.

Step 3: Restart your device> Open the OneNote app> Sign in with your Office 365 account> Now open the problematic Notebooks in OneNote Online> Click on Editing at the top right> Open in the desktop app> Check the outcome.

If the Notebooks are not able to found in it’s original location, please check whether problematic Notebooks are located in the Recycle bin of the site where it was stored:

Open the Site or OneDrive for Business where the Notebook used store> Recycle bin in the Navigation bar> Check whether the Notebooks are present and if yes, please select them and click on restore> If no, please scroll down in the Recycle bin page and click on Second Stage Recycle bin and check whether the problematic Notebooks are located. If yes, please restore them.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
