OneNote doesn't copy embeded files

Hello,

I have a table created in OneNote notebook and I have a problem that when I copy (or move) certain line to another table on the same page (or even to another notebook), most of the time OneNote will not copy the embedded files, and when pasted, only the file name will show where the file should be embedded.

Attached are pictures with part of a line in said table. In them you can see that in the original line, there are files embedded, however when the line gets copied (or cut) and pasted elsewhere, the files are lost (see the other picture).

Strange thing is that sometimes the files will get copied, however 90% of the time they won't, and I can't understand why.

Is there something that can be done, to make sure that the files are properly copied/moved together with all other data in the table line?

    Hi Jakub,

Thanks for posting back and sorry for my late reply.

For the question in my first reply, I didn't describe it clearly. Because there are two OneNote applications for Windows. Since you use OneNote, then I wonder if the situation also happens when you use OneNote for Windows 10. If you don't have it, you can install it from Microsoft Store, and then check again.

Also, I can't reproduce the situation on my side. To troubleshoot it, please try to switch to another Windows user profile on this device, run OneNote and open the notebook, then check again.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

Sorry, I'm sure no one has ever (thoroughly) tested this interesting idea.

    Hello George,

    MS team,

Thank you very much for your response and suggestions.

    Under Windows Settings> Apps> Apps & features> I found this one:

After repairing I took some time to test, and it seems that the problem persists.

However as mentioned previously, sometimes it works, but the next second it stops working, and later it starts again.

Problem is not only in one notebook - it appears/happens also when copying data between 2-3 different notebooks, different pages under different tabs,...

I'm sorry but, what do you mean by "I wonder which OneNote application you use?" & "What if you use another OneNote application, does the problem occur?" I'm a bit puzzled here, as I only have one OneNote application on my computer.

Here is the screenshot of the account page from OneNote:

Do you happen to have any other suggestion on what I could test?

    Hi Jakub,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

According to your description, I have tested it on my side, and all embedded files can be pasted successfully. Please try to repair the OneNote application, and then check again. Since there are two OneNote applications for Windows, you can choose the related steps to repair your OneNote application.

    Repair OneNote for Windows 10:

Quit OneNote for Windows 10, go to Windows Settings> Apps> Apps & features> find and select OneNote for Windows 10> Advanced options> Repair. After that, please run OneNote for Windows 10 and check again.

Repair OneNote (previously called OneNote 2016):

Quit OneNote for Windows 10, go to Windows Settings> Apps> Apps & features> find and select the Office suite (the Office suite contains OneNote), such as Microsoft 365 for Business, then select Modify, Repair, Online Repair. After that, please run OneNote and check again.

If you have repaired your OneNote application, but the problem still happens, I would like to collect more information to troubleshoot.

    1. I wonder which OneNote application you use.
    2. Does the problem happen in a specific notebook or all notebooks? You can create a new notebook to test.
    3. What if you use another OneNote application, does the problem occur?
    4. Please provide your OneNote version.

OneNote: click File> Account, please take a full screenshot of the current interface. You can click "Insert Image" to upload it.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,
