When can we expect WebP support in Microsoft 365 documents such as PowerPoint?

I have thousands of product images in WebP format which I use on my e-commerce shop and need to use them within 365 applications as well. Converting to the outdated JPEG format and maintaining twice as many files just to be able to use 365 software is not an acceptable solution.

PowerPoint for the web is a limited version of the software. The WebP import is available in the Windows and macOS desktop editions.

    Thanks for your reply, John.

I am aware that it is a limited version of the software. However, I work in a Linux environment and thus unable to install a desktop version. That said, it is ridiculous that supporting the WebP image format would require a desktop version of the software, anyway.

I realise you are a volunteer moderator and merely trying to help. Please know that my criticism is not directed at you. I hope someone within the company responsible for deciding what is/isn't available in web versions of Microsoft software reads this and understands where I am coming from!

Thanks again for your reply, John.

    Kind regards,

    Shaun Khan

    At this time,

    Dear respected Shaun Khan,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

Per the description, we understand your demand of using WebP image format in PowerPoint desktop application but we are sorry to convey that currently, Microsoft 365 does not support the WebP image format in PowerPoint or other Office applications.

Given this situation, I sincerely recommend you use Feedback Community to report this feature limitation and add your valuable idea in the PowerPoint · Feedback Community (microsoft.com) which is the best place to share ideas with the product building team and improve the Microsoft Products.

From my search, this WebP demand has been submitted by many users who feel suffering in PowerPoint for daily work.

Make webp files supported · PowerPoint Feedback Community (microsoft.com)

add support .WEBP and gifs this simplifies the work ·PowerPoint Feedback Community (microsoft.com)

you should allow .webp files · Community (microsoft.com)

Feedback submit by this way directly goes to the related team. This is the best way to let OneNote developers aware of this situation and also know your requirements, your valuable ideas and suggestions will help improve the product and make it better for every user.

I appreciate your time and effort on checking these above and thank you for your time and cooperation.

I hope that you are keeping safe and well.

    Sincerely,

    Mia | Microsoft Community Moderator

Webp support is already in the current 2402 (Build 17328.20184 Click-to-Run) version of Microsoft 365:

If your company is on a delayed-release plan for Office updates, you may not have it available yet.
