    Select the cell or cells that you want to format.

    On the Home tab of the ribbon, click the arrow in the lower right corner of the Number group.

    Select Custom in the Category list.

    Enter mmm-yyyy in the Type box, overwriting whatever it already contained.

    Click OK.

    I had to go to the control panel to fix this as there was not a type box for me to insert the format I wanted. Thank you.

    Very bad idea, because that affects all applications!
