Figure caption function not working

I am trying to insert a figure caption in a Word document. When I click "insert caption" from the "Reference" tab, "figure" is way over to the right and I cannot edit it. I've checked the document alignment just in case that was the problem, but the document is aligned left. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this??

    Check the alignment of the Caption style. It may be right-aligned or center-aligned or have a large indent.
