Can you assign an Azure PAL Id (partner ID) to a managed identity?

Is assigning PAL (Partner ID) to a Managed Identity necessary?

I understand you can assign Service Principles & User accounts.

Would like to know if Managed Identities are supported? Or is PAL derived only from the deployment SPN/Account? Not the account it runs under.

Thanks
