When using Onenote, I add a document (.ppt), but when after saving it I am unable to reopen it or enable editing without an error message - "sorry, we couldnt find....is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted". I recently switched computers and had to moved the Onenote folder. Is there a setting for the file pathway I need to adjust?

    Dear Sandra Dunford,

Thanks for writing back and updating with us. Apologies for the delay in the response as I was out of the office due to the weekend.

As per the further updates, I would like to double-confirm whether you are encountering the error when opening the embedded presentation or opening the Notebook (the theory I explained in my previous reply applies to the embedded files into the Notebook pages).

If you are facing issue with the embedded presentation, you can simply select the presentation and click on the delete the button. After deleting the embedded presentation in the moved Notebook, you attach the presentation again so that you can open the presentation in the Notebook.

If there is any misunderstanding, we are sorry and please correct us by sharing the more detailed information which will help us to better understand and guide you further.

Appreciate your patience and understanding with us. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia

    Hi Sophia,

I appreciate your reply. Thank you.

For now, would a solution be to start a new Onenote?

    Dear Sandra Dunford,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and to my knowledge, when you insert the file as an attachment into the OneNote Notebook, the attachment doesn’t have any connection with the source file and the copy of the attached file will be stored in the local PC at the following location:

So, if you move the Notebook from one computer to another computer, the attachment inserted in the Notebook will loss the connection and that’s the reason for the error message when you try to open the attachment from the Notebook.

I agree with you having the ability to open the inserted attachment from the Notebook even when it’s moved to the different device and I suggest you to add your valuable idea as a feedback in the OneNote · Community (microsoft.com) which is the best place to share our ideas and improve the Microsoft product.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,
    Sophia
