Migration away from GoDaddy to Microsoft 365 direct

Hi,

Coming here because it is impossible to talk to anybody at Microsoft directly.

I signed up to Microsoft 365 via GoDaddy for a business account (on the recommendation of a Microsoft service officer in store!).

However, it is 4x the price of the same product that Microsoft offer direct. Therefore I would like to move away from this to have my account directly with Microsoft.

Is there any reason why this is not advisable? Since we have just set up it feels like it is smart to do this ASAP before our inboxes grow!

Also, when it comes to actually migrating, I have found these steps:

1.Purchase an Office 365 plan from Microsoft directly.

2.Create mailboxes on the new subscription using the default onmicrosoft.com temporarily.

3.Perform an IMAP migration to move the mailbox data.

4.After the migration, remove your custom domain from your Office 365 plan in GoDaddy.

5.Cancel your Office 365 subscription in GoDaddy.

However, I fail at the first hurdle as I can't set up with Microsoft directly with the same email!

    Hi James,

Hoping this information will help, if it's not too late.

GoDaddy offers a tenant handoff feature, which is actioned by their US Team. Essentially, they will remove themselves from the tenant, reset your administrator & end user passwords and then it's yours..

You'll then need to purchase your own licences via Microsoft, or go through another reseller (local MSP).

I've battled with GoDaddy support numerous time as their 1st line support don't have a clue you can do this, and you have to ask to be escalated to their 365 team in the US. Here's the guide on their site which explains it - Move my Microsoft 365 email away from GoDaddy | Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy - GoDaddy Help GB

I've done this process about 3 times now for my customers.

    Thanks,
