Microsoft Office - activation issue

Hi,

In December 2023 I bought a new laptop with Windows 11 and simultaneously seperately bought Microsoft Office Home and Student 2021 from an official retailer (legal, with product key) with a permanent license. I downloaded and installed Microsoft Office Home and Student 2021, but it seems it has not been activated. I opened Microsoft Word for the first time on Friday the 9th of Feb 2024 and I got a pop-up saying Office would expire on the 14th of Feb 2024 due to not being activated. When I open Microsoft Word and go to 'Account' it doesn't say it has been activated. However, it also doesn't say it has not been activated and that it needs activation. See first screenshot attached.

When I look in 'Uninstall Program' of the Windows Control Panel, I see both Microsoft 365 as well as Microsoft Office Home Student 2021 are installed See second screenshot attached.

The questions I have are:

  1. Is Office activated or not? If not, what should I do?
  2. Does Microsoft Office Home Student 2021 conflict with any of the programs shown in the screenshot? If so, what should I do?

Anybody know what to do?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Virgilio Dias Pinto

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Below is an answer I got, but it didn't fix my issue. I'm reluctant to use Wordpad instead of Word, really want to get this fixed. Maybe below solution works for you.

Hi Virgilio D! I am Shakiru, an independent advisor and a user like you, and I am glad to be helping you out today. Based on your description and the image you shared, it simply means that you have installed the Microsoft 365 trial version, you will need to completely uninstall the Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office 2021 and then reinstall your Microsoft Office 2021.

    1. To uninstall the Office 365 trial version and other Office 2021 using the Microsoft Uninstall tool

    - Download the tools from: https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC

    - Run the tool. You will find Office 365 and other Office apps if available

    - So tick that for uninstallation

    - The uninstallation may take 50 minutes.

    - Then restart the PC when done

    2. Install Microsoft Office application:

    - Go to your Microsoft account https://account.microsoft.com/services or https://www.office.com/

    - Sign into your account if prompted

    - Click Install and follow the prompts to complete the process

I have same problem, same dates. I got a refund for Home and Student because it would not activate

on my PC after many attempts.

Tentatively, I use WordPad and free version of 365. But I miss my Word 2019

that was suddenly killed and vanished. MicroSupport was only partly

helpful and they take hours to chat. WordPad comes with Windows10

but not as useful as Word or Word365. It is confusing.
