Dear Team,

How to give the access for rename folders and Documents without Delete access in SharePoint Documents library. I already created rule. I need to prevent delete folders and documents from users. But according to my rule, users can't delete and rename the folders and documents.

Thanks.

Hi AM,

Thanks for posting back.

I need to apologize for the mistake in my first reply. Sorry for the incorrect information that was provided to you.

I have tested it again, and it is not possible to meet your needs by customizing the permission. If the Delete permission is removed from the Contributors permission level (or other higher permissions), then Contributor users are not able to rename items in SharePoint. This situation is by design.

For your reference:

Contributor users are not able to rename items in SharePoint if the Delete permission level is removed from the Contributors group

Also, based on my search, one user mentioned a workaround that may meet your needs. In this thread, Ahmed Safar mentioned using JavaScript to remove the Delete option. Please check if it helps.

Appreciate your understanding and patience.

Sincerely,

George | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Hi George,

I meant about the permission. As you mentioned above, I can give the permission without delete option for user.

But if I give permission like that, Users can't rename folders and document. I need to give permission with rename option for users.

    Thanks.

    Hi AM,

~~Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.~~

According to your description, for the rule, do you mean the permission assigned to the users?

~~If not, please point it out and provide more details for us to better understand.~~

If so, you should be able to create a unique permission to restrict users from deleting items. Also, you didn't describe it very clearly, so I suppose you allow users to create and edit files and folders. Here are the steps.

    ~~1. Create a new permission level~~

~~Go to the site, click Settings> Site permissions> Advanced permission settings> Permission levels, click the existing permission level "Contribute", scroll down and select "Copy Permissions Level", name this new permission level and untick two items "Delete Items" and "Delete Versions", then click "~~**~~Create~~**~~"~~
