Hi, I am an Independent Advisor.

Let me help you with this issue.

I understand that you are having problems opening Microsoft Office programs.

Did you recently install any other 3rd party software that might have caused this?

Please check if you have any PC optimizers like CCleaner installed.

If in case you have one, please uninstall any PC cleaners on your machine and see if that resolves your issue with MS Office.

    Hello Douglas Harper

Thank you for your contribution to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you're having an issue where office suddenly only opens with administrator privileges. This must have caused problems in your life and work.

First, I need to confirm some information:

    • You mentioned that this happened all of a sudden. When did it start?
    • What did you do before that? Like updating Windows?

Try the following options to see if that resolves your issue:

    • Click on "Start Window> right-click on any Office application (take Word as an example) > click on "Open File Location", which will open it in File Explorer> right-click on the Word application> click on "Properties> click on the Shortcuts tab> click on the "Advanced" tab> Cancel "Run as administrator", click OK> restart your computer, and then open the Word app and see if it works.
    • Are your files in a trusted location? Any files you store in a trusted location are considered safe by the system and will bypass some of the security checks.  Add, remove, or change a trusted location in Microsoft Office - Microsoft Support
    • Your PC isn't working well and you recently installed an update, uninstall the update to try to resolve the issue. Select Start  > Settings  > Windows Update  > Update history  > Uninstall updates .
View update history On the list that appears, select update you want to remove, and then select Uninstall.

Looking forward to your further reply so that we can serve you better.

    Best wishes,

Rel - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
